The Pont du Gard is an ancient Roman aqueduct bridge located in Vers-Pont-du-Gard, France. It was built in the 1st century AD to carry water from a spring in Uzes to the Roman city of Nimes. The bridge is a remarkable feat of engineering, with three tiers of arches standing 48.8 meters (160 feet) high and spanning 275 meters (900 feet) across the Gardon River. The Pont du Gard is one of the best-preserved Roman aqueducts in the world and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is a popular tourist attraction, drawing visitors from around the world to marvel at its impressive architecture and learn about its history. Visitors to the Pont du Gard can walk along the top of the bridge, explore the surrounding countryside, and visit the on-site museum to learn more about the aqueduct and its construction. The site is also a popular spot for swimming and picnicking along the riverbanks.
