Album Info:
The first flag to fly over, Oklahoma was brought to this area by Spanish explorers. The second flag was the Great Union flag of Great Britain. France’s flag was the third to fly over Oklahoma. The flag of the Spanish Empire became the fourth flag,in 1763. The fifth flag, representing the Napoleonic France, appeared in 1800. The U.S. flag, with 15 stars, and 15 alternating stripes was the sixth to fly over Oklahoma as part of the Louisiana Purchase. Flag number seven also was the U.S. flag. This flag’s design had been created by a law passed April 4, 1818 This flag now contained 20 stars and 13 alternating red and White stripes. Mexico’s flag was the eighth to fly over a part of Oklahoma from 1812-1836. The ninth flag appeared in 1836. It was the flag of the Republic of Texas. Texas flag, the Lone Star Flag, designed in 1839, was the 10th flag and flew over the Panhandle until 1850. The Choctaw Flag, carried during the Civil War was number eleven. Flag number 12 was Confederate Battle Flag. In 1907 Oklahoma became the 46th State, the first flag was red with a 5 point star and the number 46 in the center. This was our 13th flag to fly over Oklahoma. The 14th flag is the current state flag and was adopted in 1925. The flag honors the sixty different groups of Native Americans living in Oklahoma. At the present time only two different flags remain flying over the Capitol grounds, the United States of America Flag, and 14 Oklahoma Flags, this is because we had 14 flags and the government of other states had Political problems with the Confederate Battle Flag, so the state of OKLAHOMA in fairness to all, if it couldn't fly the Confederate Battle Flag, then it would only fly OKLAHOMA!

Never a shortage of flags in the city to photograph. That is one thing I have noticed since picking up a camera again.
