Each cannon was accompanied by one limber plus one caisson drawn by a second team of six horses. The caisson consisted of one limber and one caisson carrying a total of three additional limber chests of ammunition. Each chest held fifty rounds for a 6-lb. gun or 32 for a 12-lb. gun. Each caisson also carried an additional wheel, a spare limber pole, pick axes, a felling axe and a shovel. When loaded with ammunition, the caisson weighed over 3,800 lbs
