Album Info:
Made in Vienna, Austria in 1832, this bronze smoothbore was one of a number of guns purchased by Confederate agents from the Austrian Empire during the Civil War. At the beginning of the Civil War, both sides were in desperate need of all types of weapons and their agents scoured Europe buying up thousands of mostly obsolete weapons. This gun may have been one of a shipment of thirty two Austrian guns brought through the blockade in May 1862. The carriage is believed to be original.
