Album Info:
Following the end of the Civil War, the Army adopted the 3-inch Ordnance Rifle as its primary field piece, eventually modifying them to breech-loader. During the Spanish-American War in 1898 the large white cloud produced by its black powder ammunition made it an easy target for the Spanish artillery that was using the new smokeless powder.
