ANGRY friends of the McCann family last night condemned Portuguese cops for letting suspect Robert Murat “infiltrate” the hunt for Maddie.... Murat sat in on police interviews with vital witnesses including the Tapas 7 – the pals dining with the McCanns the night Maddie vanished....The oddball Brit expat was also used as interpreter when cops spoke to other witnesses who later pointed the finger of suspicion at him.... Last night a friend of the Tapas 7 said: “They are all furious – they thought Murat was a legitimate part of the investigation....“He infiltrated himself and was privy to what was said by many of the key players. It’s just the sort of information a suspect would want. It beggars belief. Portuguese police have made mistake after mistake. This just adds to the list.”... The Sun told on Saturday how cops FAILED to recognise a picture of Maddie the day after she vanished, and took notes on SCRAP paper while interviewing Brit holidaymaker Bridget O’Donnell.... In another twist, detectives have reinterviewed a tapas bar waiter who insists Kate and Gerry lied over the times they checked their kids the night Maddie vanished.... The couple are said to be “despairing” that cops could allow Murat to be present at interviews.... And recruitment consultant Rachael Oldfield, 36, one of the Tapas 7, is said to be outraged cops used Murat as interpreter for her interview. She is one of three people in the group who told police they saw Murat lurking near the McCanns’ flat.... The interview gave Murat access to details of the crime and an early warning of what was said. Murat was also present when resort nanny Charlotte Pennington gave her statement.... Charlotte, 20, was so convinced she saw Murat near the flat that she challenged him – but he clammed up. ... Murat’s lawyer Francisco Pagarate revealed he was also present when cops interviewed Diane Webster, mother of Fiona Payne and another of the Tapas 7. ...Detectives began following Murat a week after Rachael’s interview. He was then officially made a suspect. ... A source said: “It compromises an investigation when someone who turns out to be a suspect is given intimate details of what witnesses are saying. These are some of the people who have blown apart his alibi, yet police have allowed him to listen to them giving their evidence. ...“He was not present when Rachael told police she had seen him on the night, but she gave plenty of details that would be handy for him.” ....Murat has always denied going out on the evening of May 3, when Maddie disappeared in the Algarve resort of Praia da Luz a few days before her fourth birthday. His lawyer claims the only interview with Murat present was with Diane Webster....
