Album Info:
Replacing the M1841 Mountain Howitzer, this was the first original breach-loading gun in the U.S. Army. It provided fire support to the U.S. Cavalry during the late Indian Wars. The Hotchkiss also saw action in the Spanish-American War and Philippine Insurrection, 1898-1900. It has a range of 4,000 yards and fired explosive shell and canister rounds. The M1875 weighed 336 pounds and could be broken down into two loads and, with its ammunition, carried on the backs of three mules. This pack saddle carried four ammunition boxes, each containing twelve rounds.
