The large cemetery on the tree-covered hill is "Custer National Cemetery"...Established in 1897, early burials included Indian Wars soldiers, U.S. Indian Scouts, and military families, from abandoned military post cemereries of Montana, North Dakota, and Wyoming...Recent interments include military personnel from the Spanish American War, World Wars I and II, Korean War, and the Vietnam conflict...Today the cemetery, which contains the remains of approximately 5,000 veterans and their dependents, is offically closed, except for spouses or dependents of those already interred...
