Album Info:

In late 1941 development of a self-propelled 75 mm howitzer was requested. Due to the urgency following Pearl Harbor, the T30, a half-track with a 75 mm gun was rushed into production while work on a better vehicle continued. The T47 was based on the M5 Stuart light tank and testing began in early 1942. The T47 was designated the M8 and featured a larger, open-top turret for the M2 howitzer and gun crew. The M8 entered combat in late 1943 in Italy and also saw extensive service in Western Europe. Eight were assigned to each cavalry squadron and armored division headquarters company. A total of 1,778 were manufactured before production ended in January 1944.
