Album Info:

This is the flag or colors of the 3rd Regiment of U.S. Artillery that were carried in the field at the time of the Spanish American War and Philippine Resurrection (1898-1901). During this time regimental colors for field service were made of U.S. flags of wool bunting material with the regimental designation. The 3rd Artillery was formed in 1775 and saw action in every American War. As with all artillery regiments in the late 19th century the batteries of the 3rd were widely scattered at military posts around the country and overseas. During the Spanish American War in 1898, Battery C used Gatling Guns and Battery F used 3.2 inch Steel Rifles fighting in Puerto Rico. Batteries G, H, K and L went to the Philippines and Batteries H and K saw minor action around Manila.
