Album Info:
This is the prototype of the M102 which entered service in 1964 as a replacement for the M101 105 mm howitzer for use with airborne and airmobile units. The most recognizable difference between this prototype and the production model is the track at the trail which was replaced with a wheel. Eighteen guns per battalion were authorized. The M102 saw considerable use in the Vietnam War where its 360 degrees traverse feature was handy in a war with no front lines.
