Album Info:

English emigrant James Noble established the Noble & Brothers Foundry along with five of his sons at Rome, Georgia in 1855. In June 1861, the company received a Confederate government contract to produce cannon. The foundry produced both iron and bronze cannon in smoothbore and rifled guns. In October 1862 one of the Noble brothers attacked and beat a Confederate Ordnance Department inspector at the foundry. The outraged Chief of Ordnance, Josiah Gorgas terminated the contract, stating, "You are hereby informed that no more of your bills will be paid at this office. This bronze gun is dated December 1862, the month after Noble lost his contract.
