Commonly known as the "Meatball" this Japanese national flag was captured by Technical Sergeant Herbert B. Wyndham,Jr., Headquarters Battery, 210th Field Artillery Battalion, 33rd Infantry Division during fighting in the Philippines. T/Sgt. Wyndham served in the Survey Section for the M2 105 mm howitzer battalion which saw heavy action on Luzon, Philippines. The unit insignia and designations in the center are surrounded by the places the battalion served and the ships they traveled on from December 1941 to October 1945. The white field of the flag bears the names and hometowns of every soldier in the battery.
