Album Info:

This mini-crown, designed by Cartier, was presented to Queen Ena by Alfonso XIII as a wedding gift. Done in the gothic style incorporating a series of eight fleurons, it also contains four rectangular shaped emeralds and four rubes. The crown is 3 inches in diameter at its base. It was subsequently broken up by Queen Ena and used to make, among other things, the matching diamond bracelets often worn by Queen Sofia. This gothic fleuron style was particularly popular in Spain, a fleuron tiara is in the possession of the Duchess of Alba as well as the Duchess of Villahermosa and one was in the possession of the Duchess of Medinaceli which was subsequently purchased by the Spanish government and presented to Queen Fabiola of Belgium as a wedding gift from the Spanish state. Even Queen Fabiola's mother, the Countess of Mora & Marquesa of Casa Riera, had her own fleuron tiara. The plique-a-jour (Barcelona enamel) tiara/coronet made for Queen Ena by the Barcelona jewelers Masriera is also in the fleuron style, as was a tiara owned by the Queen Mother Maria Cristina presented to her by her husband Alfonso XII. Several years ago Sotheby's auctioned off a fleuron tiara/circlet made by Cartier which was described as belonging to a member of the Spanish Royal Family, but exactly what member wasn't revealed. Done in platinum, it wasn't the tiara belonging to Queen Maria Cristina because hers was made before platinum was used for jewelry.
