Album Info:

Made approximately 500 years ago, this small cannon is the oldest one in the museum. It is one of the breech-loading cannon which first appear about 1470. The 1-lb. ball was loaded into the rear of the barrel and a hollow breechblock containing the powder charge was then wedged into the rear mounting. This is also a swivel gun, which was used as an anti-personnel weapon on forts and ships. —
