A United States Marine Corps gun crew of the 11th Marines provides fire support with their M1A1 75 mm Pack Howitzer during the Battle of Guadalcanal, September - October 1942. The Battle of Guadalcanal was the first offensive campaign of the Pacific War. During this battle Marine Artillerymen fired 2,366 rounds at an average range of 1,500 yards. Nicknamed "Little Dynamite" by the Marines, the "Pack 75" was light, maneuverable and capable of rapid direct and indirect fire at almost any elevation.
