Album Info:

After the attack, relatives in other bands of Cheyenne took in those who narrowly escaped. The fifty three women and children prisoners were held at Ft. Hays, Kansas until the spring of 1869. Custer and the 7th Cavalry returned to this site in early December with General Sheridan and the 19th Kansas Cavalry. They found the remains of Elliott and his men, plus Clara Blinn and her son. They had been taken captive in the early fall and were in one of the camps along the Washita: who killed them is not known.
