The BCS is an integrated technical fire direction system. It provides technical fire control for the artillery at battery and platoon levels. BCS computes firing data based on each gun's location, muzzle velocity, target location, aiming point and the weather's affect on the trajectory or flight of the rounds. BCS then provides firing commands to guns in the battery. FIST Digital Message Device (Below) ~ 1980. The Fire Support Team (FIST) DMD is an 18-lb. portable tactical digital message communications terminal with limited computational functions. The Fire Support Officer (FSO) at the battalion uses the FIST DMD to coordinate fire support with the Fire Support Teams (FISTs) at the company and platoon levels.
