Album Info:
This is a Model 1897 75 mm gun mounted on a prototype carriage in order to increase its elevation capability. One of the few disadvantages of the famous French 75 with its box trail was a very limited elevation capability of 19 degrees. During World War I the ability of a gun to provide high-angle fire became very important. This experimental carriage with its cutout feature behind the breech was an early attempt to solve the problem.
