Album Info:

The M1 was approved for production in May 1941 but because of the rapid growth of the American war industry, it did not actually enter production until October 1942. By D-Day most divisions were equipped with one battalion of the 155 mm howitzers together with three battalions of 105 mm guns. The M1 was the second most commonly used field piece of the war, equipping 170 field artillery battalions in Europe and the Pacific. When production ended in June 1945 over 4,000 had been produced. The M1, later re-designated the M114, saw service in the Korean War and the Vietnam War.
