Album Info:

Developed by Benjamin Hotchkiss in 1871, the gun combined the revolving barrel, rapid fire design of the Gatling gun with the power of an explosive artillery shell. It fired 37 mm explosive shells at a rate of 43 rounds per minute at a range of 2,000 yards. Tested by the Army in 1876-77, it was highly recommended as an auxiliary light artillery piece. Both the Army and Navy purchased a very small number. Nothing is known of its Army service history.
