Album Info:
Founded in May 1871 because of a growing Franco-American population of about 2000 was the first French parish to be established. Manchester was part of the Portland, Maine diocese at that time. Abbé Joseph-Augustin CHEVALIER was the first pastor. In 1908, St-Augustin had 7,727 parishioner. From 1871-1993, there were about 18,650 baptisms recorded in the parish registries. The parish had a co-ed, grammar school run by the Sisters of the Holy Cross.
