We are walking through farms. Although it doesn't look like it, there are little patches of cassava, yam, and other root crops here and there. In the background, you can see oil palms, the fruits of which provide the bright orange oil that is the foundation of West African stews. Young palms are cut down and drained of their sap to make the sometimes delicious palm wine or when distilled "schnapps."
