I was stationed in Idar-Oberstein but spent quite a bit of time up there on field missions between 1977-79. At that time the mess hall was known as the "Blue Moon Cafe." We would drive to the big city of Eschwege for fun and excitement... or just hang out in the Sonnenblick "hotel" and while away the time drinking and carrying on. It was beautiful country. I have no pix from Mt. Meissner. And I don't remember much Russian at this point. So it was really great to find your photos. I'm guessing it's all gone now. Lots of memories from those of us at the 415th ASA who spent time there. Danke!
The must be the commemorative tree and bronze marker to honor the men, women, and dead brain and liver cells of the Army Security Agency personnel stationed at Mt. Meissner, Det (Detachment) M Out Station then Border Site during the Cold War. It did get cold at night during the winter.
