U-848 is seen under attack during a gun battle. by four Liberator aircraft of VP-104 Squadron USN and two of USAAF 1st composite squadron, 250 miles WSW of Ascension Island. The USAAF bombers attacked from 4,000ft with bombs; the US Navy aircraft attacked from 50ft using depth charges.
