New Dutch Water Line: between 1840 and 1860 several gun towers were constructed in the forts. Originally they had an all-round field of fire. With the introduction of the rifled guns in 1859 the tower became too vulnerable. That is why the top level of the tower was removed and a large counterscarp gallery added on the front side. The tower is the largest with its diameter of about 40 m. For more photos please visit www.fortweb.net
