Album Info:

The first parts of this fort near Den Helder were constructed by the French when Napoleon wanted to convert the Dutch port into a 'Gibraltar of the North'. The Dutch modified the fort several times. They also added a huge barracks building that is 280 m. long and could house 1.000 men. The white building on the right is a German emplacement for a 10,5 cm AA gun, dating from WW II.
