Album Info:
Also known as Sister Moretta; Madre Moretta; Giuseppina Bakhita. Feast day:February 8. Born in 1869 at Olgossa, Darfur, Sudan to a wealthy family. She was kidnapped by slave-traders at age 9 and given the name BAKHITA, which means "the lucky one," or "the fortunate one." Sold and resold in the markets at El Obeid and Khartoum, she was finally purchased in 1883 by Callisto Legnani, an Italian consul, who planned to free her.
