Album Info:

Khartoum, Sudan's capital city, lies on the southern bank of the Blue Nile. It has become a sad, bitter place ravaged by seemingly endless civil war in the south. The city, which probably got its name from the word "khurtum," meaning elephant trunk was founded as a military outpost, expanding into a major way-station for European explorers and slave traders during the mid-19th century. In 1834 it became the capital of Sudan.
