Thank you so much for this website. I am reading an historical mystery novel, "The Alienist", by Caleb Carr that is set in 1896 New York City. One of the interesting points of that time was the secondary travel on the rooftops- especially in tenement slums. Some people conducted business all day without even descending to the street below, "not only creditors seeking payment, but settlement and church workers, salesmen, visiting nurses, and others." Page 182 This website has enhansed the story by helping me visualize New York during that time. Thanks again.
