Correction: Col. Joseph Hardin was born in what is now Richmond, VA; died July 4, 1801. Married Jane Gibson in Virginia on July 8, 1762, and soon thereafter moved to the Salisbury district of NC, settling in the newly formed Tryon County, abt. 1770. Also, he never set foot on his land grant in TN; it was surveyed by Issac Taylor and settled by his sons. There is an excellent article on Col. Joseph Hardin on Wikipedia. As stated before, the Joseph Hardin of Tuscaloosa, AL documented in these images is NOT Col. Joseph Hardin of VA/NC/TN.

This is a wonderful document image. However, this Joseph Hardin is NOT Col. Joseph Hardin for whom Hardin County, TN is named. That Joseph Hardin was born about 1734 in Roane Co., NC and died about 1801. He lived in Greene & Knox Counties, TN. He surveyed one of the early land grants in west TN, where his sons settled Hardin Co., TN.
