  • Fifty-two heads of state and hundreds of CEOs, NGO directors, academics and celebrities have left the building, and the third Annual Meeting of Clinton Global Initiative (CGI) has drawn to a close. The impact of CGI, however, will continue to reach more than 100 million lives in every region of the world in the months and years to come. Read on for meeting highlights, new announcements, and ways that you can take action to help change our world. Last week in New York City, 1,300 CGI members, including global leaders, business executives, directors of NGOs, media, academics and celebrities came together to transform ideas into action on four global challenges: education, energy & climate change, global health and poverty alleviation. This year, CGI members made 245 commitments to take action in new, specific, and measurable ways. Examples of their potential impacts include: Helping 8.5 million children enroll in school for the first time Providing 50 million people with access to treatment for neglected tropical diseases Protecting or restoring 170,031,331 acres of forest Empowering 11.2 million people with access to sustainable incomes This is just the tip of the iceberg (which, incidentally, will also be helped thanks to the many commitments made to combat climate change). Over 800 commitments have been made since CGI’s inception in 2005, impacting more than 100 million lives and 1,000 organizations in more than 100 countries
