  • I remember when a hurricane hit SR 22 . It was real ugly and many people were left homeless.

  • Dear Sandy - I'm really sorry to have offended you with my reference to "abandoned" pets - as I've worked with rescue and helped to reunite, and heard so many stories about how/why people were forced to leave their pets behind, my thinking has changed. Originally, we all referred to and thought of these animals as being abandoned, (and thought poorly of the people abandoning them - saying "I'd never have done that") but upon learning of the circumstances, and finding out that people were forced to leave them - I and many other rescuers (the public at large?) have started to think/refer to them as being left behind - and understand that it wasn't by choice. I will go back and remove the terminology "abandoned" from my pics. -->--> The whole of the disaster, how gigantic it was, and how many people and pets it affected - and continues to affect - it's hard to comprehend. I've been to St. Bernard Parish; and seen what you lived through - it's great to see your pictures of your family and beloved pets POST Katarina - and I'm so sorry for the ones lost. Evelyn

  • I'm a resident of St. Bernard and was looking through photos. I have a comment on the "abandoned cats" pictures: I had cats I was forced to leave behind, NOT ABANDON. Please change the titles to show another term other than abandon. It's extremely offensive to loving pet owners. As for these cats that you THINK are abandoned -- my red tabby FREAKED OUT when I put him in a kennel or in the car. I WANTED to stay home. I left him enough food and water to attend to him every few days, as I work in downtown New Orleans. Not all cats want to leave home. I have most of my cats with me now in my temporary home, and I can tell they all want to go back home, which will be soon enough. Thanks for not offending Katrina victims.
