Hurricane is a great power. I think, people won't be able to find smth to protect themselves for ages. So, I'm just trying to relax and to listen to good music..

The Katrina hurricane was pretty bad, and the satellite TV installation was destroyed leaving people with no actual way of getting warned of other possible future problems.

This hurricane does six figures yearly damage. It is too bad that science hasn't figured a way to stop all the destruction caused by the hurricane.

Miss Dawn, I came across your photos browsing the web. I evacuated from Biloxi, but will probably return sometime soon. I began going to school at Keesler on Aug 15th, of all things, to be a weather forecaster. I had only been there for 3 weeks when Katrina hit. I lved on the corner of Shell and Kuhn St. I got a chance to see the home I was renting after the storm, i lost everything. The house, as you know many did, was shifted around a block and a half away from where it stood. We were at an angle to the water tower. Some of the pictures you have are exact spots where I took pictures also. I had taken pics of the city before the storm so I could send them to relatives who have never been that way, including myself. It just chokes me up to see some of those places I used to drive by and places I saw that exist no more. I really hope you and your family are doing well. My wife and I evacuated back to Las Vegas, but I will probably have to return alone because of the shortage in living spaces, even on base. Although I lost everything, I am grateful I still have a job abd income to rebuild. My heart goes out to all the people that are from that area, everyone was so extremely nice! God bless you. Hey Dawn, I finally tracked you down. Give me a call and let me know how you are doing. I looks like my family fared a little better than yours. They are still staying in Gulfport (I know crazy) and that even with having some rooms livable that conditions are deplorable. Gary 512 848-9288 CKorSupe1@aol.com

I have viewed your photos and my heart goes out to your family and others who are personally affected. However, I feel compelled to ask these questions out of my own concern: My parents lived in Long Beach for 12 years - on Richard Street right off Hwy 90 - and then my mother moved to Beach Park Drive directly across from the University Campus. Both of my parents are now buried in the National Cemetary. I have seen no pictures of that part of town on any channel anywhere. Is the cemetary area OK? I cannot find any pictures of Long Beach - only Gulfport & Pass Christian. Do you have any or can you direct me to a webpage that does? Thank you so much for your assistance. I do plan on helping out with the clean up through my work. They are allowing people to sign up and take a "tour of duty" so to speak. So, once I get a chance to come down, these are the areas I want to go to first. I have to see for myself. Thank you again.

Just wanted to let you know you are in the hearts and 'prayers' of so many during this hard time of recunstruction. Please if you need to talk, just email me, I am a Frances and Jeanne 'survivor'in Florida, so I can relate to the heart ache and desperation. Keep hanging on.

Hello Dawn, I can't express how much sorrow I feel for what is happening to our country right now. But thank you so much for your pictures. They help me, and others like me in the western states get some kind of perspective on the total loss and devastation that our great nation has suffered. Marcia Gascon Prineville, Oregon

Hello, Dawn Thank you for your pictures. We've heard so much news about New Orleans, but no one has talked about any place else. To be truthful, most of the damage looks like it could have been caused by an F-4 tornado, which we experience up in Illinois & Wisconsin more frequently than hurricanes hit any specific area. However, damage is very localized when they do hit, whereas this is ... total. Further, there are the other photos -- ground torn up, bridges broken. I've never seen anything like that after any tornado. I'm thinking good thoughts toward you and yours, and hoping that you will realize your new "normal" as soon as possible. I cannot know how terrible it must be to have lived through this. Please, please -- if you need it to help recover from your post-traumatic distress problems, avail yourself of counseling so that you will not dream of this terror, but rather of good times and bright skies. Sincerely, Bronwyn Noble Madison, WI

I went through Biloxi on our holidays last year, the drive down was beautiful but the people we met made our trip the best it could be. In Canada everyone is shocked at the devistation of Katrina. Keep up your spirits because many people are praying for you.I just can't imagine what you are going through but my family prays for all of you.

Dawn my prayers go out for you and many others forever impacted by the storm. My parents live on Linwood in Biloxi just a couple hundred yards north of Pass Road. They have been with us since last Sunday and are desparate to find out what kind of shape their house is in. I am trying to convince them to stay with us in Atlanta until it is safe to return. Any advise or insight would be helpful to my parents. God Bless you.

Hello Dawn and thank God you still have your lives...I can't even imagine the horror of that kind of devastation. You must have been there for several years as you mentioned in one photo of where your daughter was born. I am so sorry for all of your loss and thank God again that help is finally arriving and people are opening their homes and hearts to all of you who have lost so much. I pray for recovery for all of you and am helping in several ways which may not personally reach you but is meant for all who have suffered as you have. You are in the hearts and prayers of thousands of us here who are doing what we can and for those who have arrived with more direct aid and help. God Bless you and yours. Thanks for sharing these photos. I imagine that the pictures alone cannot tell the whole story of the destruction Biloxi was wrought. It must have taken strength to post these photos, let alone take them, given the destruction of your home and years of your family's lives. I had the opportunity to visit Biloxi, although briefly. I stopped off in Biloxi while returning from visiting family in Florida several years ago. I visited the pier by the lighthouse, and drove along the beachfront boulevard, passing the stately old homes. It breaks my heart to know that all I saw in my visit is gone. My God bless you and your family. Steven from Ft. Worth, Texas.

Our local news station, KLAS-TV sent and funded an entire Task Force One rescue team made up of firemen and paramedics, as well as construction experts to help with your Biloxie cleanup. They are being held in Dallas, but arrived there two days ago! Please know that the rest of America IS very concerned about you, your family and friends who went through this, and hope that none of you is physically hurt. Thank you for touring your neighborhood with your camera and posting your shots. We appreciate your caring efforts to do this. Please post the pictures of your rebuilding. We will all wait to know that you are all right. God bless each of you. He must love you VERY much, and saved you for the most important future work of your life. Take care of each other.

You may never know how helpless the rest of us in the country - and the world - feel when all we want to do is help somehow. I have donated money to two agencies and hope that some relief comes immediately to everyone affected. Carol, Smyrna, GA - USA

We pray that you and your neighbors will recover soon from this terrible devastation. Your pictures really brought it home how terrible some of God's storms are. We live in Kansas and have tornadoes but even they don't cause such wide spread devastation. God Bless you all!

My heart goes out to you and your family. You are in my prayers for a fast recovery from this devastation and that you and yours are unhurt and safe. It is very difficult to tell someone what it is like living through a hurricane, until you have been through one yourself, which I have. But your picture definitely tell the story loud and clear for all it see. Thank you for sharing during this difficult time. Lynn, Bonanza, Oregon, USA

There is nothing that can be said that will help. I'm sure the anticipation was dreadful, the event had to be a horrendous experience, and the aftermath is indescribable...except in pictures, and you have done that from a very personal point of view. It has been an emotional experience that none of us will ever forget, even though we didn't suffer the consequences as you did. Best of luck in rebuilding your community. Our hearts ache for you & all who have been touched by this horrific incident. No one can understand the loss & devistation you suffer unless one as gone through what you have. Our prayers are with you & yours. Our government has been way to casual & slow in helping in this bastardly situation. We do not understand the lack actions & the much delayed response of this supposidly..."most powerful country in the world?" For this we are sorry. Sincerely, ~Joni & Gary~ Las Vegas, NV.

We know what you are going trough. Just 6 weeks ago the eye of Hurricane Emily hit the Yucatan peninsula just a few miles south of or little community. We know that’s words don’t help much but it is all what we can give. All our thoughts are with you. Don’t give up! The stress is enormous right know and it may get worse but believe: There is always a tomorrow to look forward too. And still we, you on the Golf Coast and we on the Caribbean are the lucky ones. We did survived. And that is not the end; that is the beginning. Heidi in behalf of the community of Paamul, Quintana Roo, Mexico

Your courageous presence of mind to take these evocative photos will do a lot to further the idea that we, your countrymen, can and will step up to provide assistance in whatever material and spiritual means are necessary to help you and so many others. Know that you all are in so many thoughts and prayers. Your plight will not be forgotten and we will stay together in this until your lives have been put back together again. On a note that may seem totally irrelevant to this tragedy, your pictures are very well done and your feature selection is merited. Congratulations!!! ~~~~Bob

What a chance you and your family are alive (and your camera!). Your pictures are so impressive - and to think that similar scenes cover a surface of at least half of our country = France! Though we live far from where was your home: we feel with you and people around you - this is an event that nobody can ever forget lifelong! - Thank you for informing us - the "feature" expresses a little bit our thanks! - Best wishes from SW France: Kaethi and Henri

Congratulations on being featured with this shattering album. How on earth did you manage to save your camera in working order from this mess? I was impressed by the TV coverage we see here in Holland from this disaster no one can imagine, one wonders how some buildings managed to survive relatively unscathed. This going to be a incredibly tough time for all of you. I wish you lots of strength and optimism. Show us again when you have finished, as you surely will do! Still: have a nice day with your featuring.
