February 1864, 5,200 Confederates defeat 5,500 Union toops in battle at Ocean Pond near North Florida town of Olustee. Total battle casualties 2,807. Fourteen months later Civil War ends with Tallahassee only Southern capitol never captured

  • History says the federal troops were mostly colored from a Massachusetts regiment yet all of the photos I see are of white troops. This does not represent the history of the Battle of Olustee.. R Felton

  • I, too, like to go to this re-enactment, as I live in the Jacksonville area. I have a few of my own photos from the 2001 re-enactment, but they are certainly nowhere as good, sharp, clear as what yours are. I really enjoyed surfing thru them. Some of your photos appear to have been taken on the battlefield - were you a part of the re-enactment, too? Excellent work! BTW, my great great grandfather was in the 6th Tennessee Confederate Cavalry, serving under Gens. Nathan B. Forest and Joseph Wheeler, and altho his unit was not involved in this fight, it's as close as I can imagine as to what his life must have been like, and the battles he participated in. Gary Grimme
