I was assigned to the 534th Air Base Squadron in Oct. 1954. I was A/3C Charles J. Hermes, right out of Sampson AFB. Green you ask? My nick name was "The Doe Slayer" after bagging my first doe that year which were of course, out of season. Col. Holmes and Col. Locke wrote in one of my commendations that I was the best ground photographer ever to set foot on Kinross AFB. My photo expose of the appauling living conditions that our off base housing personnel were subjected to helped to justify funding authorization for the on base dependent housing complex in 1956. I left Kinross an A/1C in Feb. 1957 and re-assigned to Korea. In remembrance of Father Frank Gemski, base chaplain, who baptised me in 1955 and A/1C William Vogel, a friend of mine. '
