    • Hi Clifford East, I emailed you through the Webshots system, but I don't know if you received it. Of course, use any pics here for the West Kirby association archives. Best wishes, Jim

    • Hi, thanks for your note. West Kirby was probably rather bleak in winter, the wind came straight off the Irish Sea! I was there in mid-Sept '54 for six weeks, I think it was. It was fine and warm, can't remember ever using the gas cape to keep the rain off.... When I look at those 18-year old faces in the pic, it brings back memories. Take it up to LARGEST size, then click on the symbol bottom-right on the pic to take it up to full-screen size. I look at those guys, who of course dispersed in all directions after square-bashing, and can recall the names (or nicknames) and home towns of everyone there. The corp. DIs were only a couple of years older than us, but had filled out, and were FRIGHTENING figures at the time. Life was ahead of us, Radio Lux was playing in the hut, and we were getting up at 0600 for a kit inspection...happy days! I wish my memory for the rest of the years was as good! If you have any RAF service pics to add here, let me know. Best wishes, Jim

    • Had the pleasure of doing my square bashing at West Kirby during winter 1950/51. Was indeed a lovely place at that time of year. I just hope it had improved some by the time you were there
