This is a very thought provoking album. While the photos are great and we know how the war came out - it is very saddening to see that many men gave their lives for their country. I have a family member stationed aboard an aircraft carrier now. They just went through the Suez Canal and are headed for the Arabian Gulf. I am told that most of the people aboard the carrier can't wait to get there. They are going because they want to. How different from WWII when only some were volunteers. Back to your album - it is very impressive. Thanks for putting it up for public view. - DeeAnne :)

Mr. Plum, Thank you for posting these photos. After more than 20 years I finally received my fathers WWII belongings. Among these is a copy of "The Escort Carriers in Action" USS Makin Island. I treasure this book and the memory of all who serve and have served our country.

Hello Mr. Plum, I have just downloaded two of your photos, "Re-fueling" and "Burial at sea". One is dramatic and the other is very touching. Thank you for sharing this album and your memories.

Although WWII was before my time, I do realize it is due to you and the other great men and women in the service of our country who have made it possible for me, and my generation, to have the life we have had. Many Thanks to each and every one.

Have checked out a number of your albums. Excellent work. Very enjoyable. Like you I was in the military for a number of years. Three years Royal Canadian Air Force, and Five years Royal Canadian Navy. I have photos online that I took in the 50's & 60's up to the present. I was too young for WW2 or Korea. My big moment came when HMCS Kootenay, DDE 258, closed up to full Action Stations one night during the Cuban Missile Crisis. I found out recently that our target was "a Russian Nuclear Sub". Neither of us fired on the other, and we closed down from Action Stations when the sub aparently left the area. Cheers, Ray.
