Album Description:
The largest city in NH, Manchester, also known as the QUEEN CITY, attracted 23,000 French-Canadians, who made up 40% of the Manchester, NH population by 1900. They came because of the work available in the mills along the Merrimack River.

Such a wonderfull collection of photos. I wonder if anyone would know of a web site in manchester, where I could post a unidentified old family photo? The family name could be Caissie. The only information on it is: Pigeon Studio, Mass. Thank you!

My family name is BUREAU.My father is Paul J. and my grandfather was Omer E. Bureau-born in Manchester, NH 10/16/1894. His parents were Joseph Bureau(owned a grocery store in Manchester 1920/30's)born in Sherbrooke, Quebec and (first name unknown?) Nadeau (Sherbrooke, Quebec). They had 8 children-any information will be appreciated.

In Berlin, New Hampshire , until February last year I had family there. Mrs. Odette Papineau-Couture from Montreal, married Mr. Gerard Morin. You may find photos of her , her son & husband in one of my albums . Visit my pages. I love to visit New Hampshire year after year. I am always amazed even after all these years , how many people are of French origin even in Berlin. They are so friendly. Keep on the Good work. http://community.webshots.com/photo/144586240/144596144xRlKTy

Hi! My mother's family came from around Sherbrooke, Quebec in the 1700's, I think. Do you have any Collettes or Constantines in your family? It seems almost all of us are related somehow.

Hi, I got your message yesterday about the records. Could you see if you can find Corinne Bourgeois % Paul Cyr's marriage? Was Paul from NH too? Paul was not there while Wilfred & siblings grew up. ? if he died, left, divorce, or what. She married John Fortin 2nd.(it was wrong somewhere) Poor Corinne gets left out of her parents list of children all the time. I do have a few things, but, not good with computer, send me your address and I'll send you copies. My e-mail contid22@aol.com Thanks, Denise

Muriel--what a wonderful collection of photos. I was never in NH until after I married a man from Manchester; it is really interesting to see the town as it used to be. Thanks again for your note jak

Robert, I've looked up the baptisms in several French parish registries of Manchester, NH, and have been unable to find your father, HECTOR-PHILIPPE DESCOTEAUX, listed. I have the following registries:St. Augustine, Vol. 1 A to H 1871-1993: Baptisms (RP 005),Vol. II H to Z 1871-1993: Baptisms (RP 005); St-Edmond Vol. 1: Marriages & Burials;St. Georges Vol. 1: A-H, April 1890-December 1996: Baptisms (RP 028) Vol. II: H-Z, April 1890-December 1996: Baptisms (RP 028); St. Georges,(RP 029, Burials: 15 January 1895-December 1997, Marriages: 2 January 1975-December 1997; St. Georges Marriages: 1890-1975; Ste. Marie(RP 003)Marriages: 1880-1973. Should you know anyone from your DESCOTEAUX family, who may be listed in these directories, just write to me at the email address listed for this site & I'll send you the information contained within the registry. I do hope you will enjoy your eventual visit to Manchester.
